Sizing Wind Turbine Generator - 8,000 Nm's - Help Needed!

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on sizing a wind turbine generator with a torque specification of 8,000 Nm. The original poster seeks assistance in determining the appropriate generator size and the start and continuous rated torque requirements for 500 kW, 1 MW, and 1.5 MW wind generators. A response indicates that more information is needed to provide accurate calculations, specifically regarding the size of the turbine blades and the generator or motor. Additionally, it is noted that a 1.5 MW generator typically has a rotor diameter of around 6 meters. The conversation highlights the complexities involved in wind turbine generator sizing and the need for precise specifications.

I am attempting to size a wind turbine generator where the torque available is 8,000 Nm's. Can anyone save me doing the calculations? Regards AV8TUR.

Welcome to PF!

It isn't clear to me what you are trying to do. You haven't provided enough information to "size" anything and what you have provided doesn't seem relevant.

Are you needing to know which size turbine blade or which size generator/motor?

Hi MachX, I am looking for the generator size that 8,000Nm torque can handle. Also if possible, the start and continuous rated torque requirement for a 500Kw, 1Mw & 1.5Mw wind generator.

For a 1.5 MW generator rotating at the same speed as the turbine, it's around 6m diameter.
You have nice pictures at Enercon's website.
