I think personality comes through in writing, at least it does to me. Also, if you have pictures, then you can tell something about appearance.

If I'm not mistaken signed copies of his book had a higher price and the money was donated to the children's foundation he supports.

Well, you could ask if he would sign a few books to be auctioned on E-bay or some such with the proceeds going to a worthy organization or cause. This would allow you to add something about yourself so he would know you're not a flake or fraud. A link to a bio and picture under your signature perhaps? I have no doubt a few members might help you along by donating books that are in excellent condition. A win-win proposition if he's inclined to sign them.

edit to add: You can still express your admiration for him in the note. Btw, the other person in that picture looks like his son.

Or, you could simply say: Hello, I find your as interesting as your work. It takes two to Tango, care to Waltz?

I'm just practical.

I'm not sure about politics. I don't like wearing suits, and I prefer to go barefoot.

On the other hand, I like rolling up my sleeves and getting things done. Then again, I prefer shirts without sleeves.

I hear you. I wear shoes mainly because I do stuff that can cause cuts/damage to my feet. I don't own a suit, a sports coat, or a tie. There's no possibility that I will ever go anywhere that these are required, so I practically live in T-shirts, jeans, and the occasional flannel/fleece shirt when it's really cold outside. When I was running open-mike jams at local taverns, much of my clothing costs were taken care of, because beer vendors would ask to run specials at the jams and provide me with free T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.

I can't imagine any time that you might need to dress up for the sisters, unless you needed to crash a wedding (reason unspecified). I think most of the sisters would accept us as we are, absent the need for the undercover work. Certainly, MIH, Moonie, Evo, and Tsu might be willing to overlook our lack of social sophistication in return for some salsas or chili relishes. You've got to haul some of your frozen chilies out of the freezer and experiment with them. The heat will set you free!
