In summary, the player played the New York Times daily word game and found that they had a higher fail rate in playing against Spanish-speaking humans. They also mentioned that the game is similar to a board game they remember from their childhood.

What is the distribution of classes giving shared results for your seed?
That I haven't looked at, if I understand what you're asking.

To clarify: I am asking about the distribution of the sizes that the guess divides the words into, i.e., how large the groups are that remain given any particular outcome of the guess. For example how many of the words survive ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟧 on the first guess. One might expect ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ to be the largest group, but it is not necessarily a given.

Heh yeah, but at least you guessed correctly the first time. :)

Guess it's also easier at the end.

It may be easier, but it annoys to have chosen the wrong of the two.

Thanks for the clarification, you verified my understanding of what you were asking. No, I don't look at the distribution of sizes because I consider it irrelevant to my method. Let my describe how I proceeded with today's puzzle.

The seed gave me this response ⬜🟦🟧⬜⬜. How many words have this pattern is irrelevant. Of relevance is which words have this pattern. Let me illustrate with a hypothetical example that matches today's response to my seed but is not related to today's puzzle.
Target word = AFTER
Seed word = SATIN
First response
1698683244547.png
(colors from my spreadsheet simulator)
At this point the words that fit this pattern are
ACTOR
AFTER
ALTAR
ALTER
APTLY
EXTRA
FETAL
METAL
OCTAL
PETAL
TOTAL
ULTRA
and the frequency distribution of the letters in them is
1698683819667.png

Now I look for a word that contains as many of the high frequency letters as possible. I discard T because I already know where it is (I ignore the duplication in TOTAL.) I choose RELAY for the second try.

The second response is
1698684283758.png

At this point the words that fit this pattern are
AFTER
ALTER
EXTRA
Entering as third guess one of the words that start with A, gives me probability that I will get the solution in 3 is 1/3 while the probability that will get the solution in at most 4 is 1.

Clever. It removes most of the frustration of playing, but it seems it would also remove most of the fun!

I tend to agree. It seems to me be a little too geeky an approach. But you do you :)

Mostly luck, and bit of technology.
Today's word was the 17th most popular seed word and 0.7% of the global players got it on the first try.
I had it ranked #12 on my list of best potential seed words, though due to a technicality, it was not on my active list.
Now my seed word, although I rank it at #68, was ranked #837 by global player usage. It set me up by leaving the solution as the only word with the top 5 letters by count contained in my 73 choices remaining. Although that may all sound very smart, I still consider it 99% luck that I got it in two, as the solution could have just as easily been any of the other 72 words on the list, in which case I'd have gotten it in 3 or 4 guesses like everyone else.
