A secondary school describes an institution that provides secondary education and also usually includes the building where this takes place. Some secondary schools provide both lower secondary education (age 12 to 15) and upper secondary education (age 15 to 18) i.e. levels 2 and 3 of the ISCED scale, but these can also be provided in separate schools, as in the American middle and high school system. In the UK, elite public schools typically admit pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. UK state schools accommodate pupils between the ages of 11 to 18.
Secondary schools follow on from primary schools and prepare for vocational or tertiary education. Attendance is usually compulsory for students until age 16. The organisations, buildings, and terminology are more or less unique in each country.

I'm in my Senior Year, and our school is very Athletic, provinical/national champions in practically everything. We don't have any academic clubs whatsoever. I have been planning to start a math club since 10th grade with my Math Teacher.
We decided we better do it this year...since next...
Well, my chemistry teacher is extremely confusing, and wants us to create our own lab where we figure out the enthalpy changes in a chemical reaction. Is there are reaction out there that would give a considerable change in temperature, while using chemicals typically found in a high school? As...
Hello,
After reading https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=128879", I started to be afraid that same situation applies to me.
Let me describe situation. I'm currently a 15-year old sophomore in HS at US (though I only came to US 2.5 years ago). I have good skills at self-studying: I...
I'm very into physics at a layperson's level, but I find I am not going get anywhere without the math and physics theory to back it up. I took physics, calculus and functions in high school, but that was a looooong time ago. I'm thinking that, in order to advance my knowledge in physics, I'm...
Bill threw a shot put with an initial speed of 12m/s at an angle of 35 degress to the horizontal. He released the shot put at a height of 1.5 meters. How far did he throw the shot put? If he could have changed the angle of his throw, at what angle would he had attained the maximum distance, and...

A stationary object explodes into two fragments. A 4.0 kg fragment moves westward at 3.0 m/s. What are the speed and kinetic energy of the remaining 2.0 kg fragment?
why can't i assume the kinect enegery of each object is the same?I loked at it and assumed 1/2mv^2 for object 1 should equal...
Which course is best to do at summer school, Chemistry or
Wold History w/Geography?
Both classes are required, so I need to take one to make room for other classes in the Fall.
The following remarks were written by me to my sons' high school community some years ago. I believe they are still relevant. They were then considered so heretical that they were not acceptable as publishable.
The idea of posting these remarks was inspired by Zapper Z's extensive and...
I don't get it "But his mathematical feat won the praise of others, including the math and computer science teacher who got Gaurav interested in it."
Why is this considered a "mathematical feat"? He's not actually doing any math. I admit it's an awesome bit of memorization and recitation...

So ... do you think an exit exam is "illegal [and discriminatory]" ?
Oh my god I am taking all of high school all over again all at the same time as far as science goes. Biology, chemistry, physics, math! And its kicking my ass all over campus.
What i hate:

Hi, I'm a grade 12 high school student in Canada. This semester I'm taking math, chemistry, and physics and I've been really enjoying these classes so far. However, one question I can't even dare to ask my teachers is that why we are expected to memorize all those formula/equations. (ex/ Trig...
My school district requires that each high school senior complete what's called a "Graduation Project," in which the student makes a project of their choice that relates to their academics. There's no specific requirements about the actual project, just the completion of different components...
I think that the students at my high school are getting stupider every year :bugeye:
Maybe it's because I spend so much time on PF. This year I'm happy because in PreCalc, there are no stupid people, nor are there any in AP Biology and AP US history. One class is missing though...physics...
I have just learned that I will be teaching physics this year. It is the first year that the school will have physics (a new school). I have not taught physics before. The administrator thought that they had a textbook, but they do not. I am looking for a physics textbook for this year, it...

Hi, can someone please recommend some books on theoretical physics?
I have limited knowledge in calculus (chain/product/quotient rule and a bit of anti-differentiation) and I plan to study purely from the textbook. If I need a more advanced understanding of maths, which I'm sure I do, can...
I need to interview an astronomer for a high school project. At the astronomy.net forums, another member recommended these as a good place to find one.
Any takers?
Hello again forums, long time no chat. Happily, I've returned though.
I'm almost done with my junior year in high school, and was wondering where I could find any science related opportunities (internship, job, academic programs) in my area. Where would I start searching? I live in the DFW...
I am currently reading these lecture notes about string theory:
http://www.phys.uu.nl/~thooft/lectures/string.html
I think that I understand the general idea. After that it's simply applying QFT formalism, which I'm more or less familiar with (or so I thought). But in Chapter 7. - BRST...
