A secondary school describes an institution that provides secondary education and also usually includes the building where this takes place. Some secondary schools provide both lower secondary education (age 12 to 15) and upper secondary education (age 15 to 18) i.e. levels 2 and 3 of the ISCED scale, but these can also be provided in separate schools, as in the American middle and high school system. In the UK, elite public schools typically admit pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. UK state schools accommodate pupils between the ages of 11 to 18.
Secondary schools follow on from primary schools and prepare for vocational or tertiary education. Attendance is usually compulsory for students until age 16. The organisations, buildings, and terminology are more or less unique in each country.
So basically I'm wondering if any of you guys find small talk annoying. I'm still in high school, where interpersonal relationships are becoming more complex and 'formal'. Personally I find it really contrived, as I'm used to engaging in some activity with others before conversation naturally...
Hello everyone. I've been searching for some similar topics, although I didn't find one. In case a topic already exists, sorry about that.
I'm currently an undergrad studying CS, and I'd like to know whether becoming an AP teacher at a local high school requires additional coursework. For...

Hello everyone,
I'm a junior in high school and, with an enormous workload, I don't have much time to sleep. I typically get 4-6 hours except on weekends and snow days, when I usually sleep 11-12 hours. I know that many of you have had similar experiences, whether in high school, college...
Dissection -- mandatory for high school and university?
Is dissection mandatory for high school and university (biology as a major)? Can one be exempt due to religion and use virtual tech like harvard does?
Hey PF, I'm new to the forums and I want to ask you for some guidance. I'm currently in my junior year of high school and took honors physics last semester. I WAS planing on taking AP Physics B in my senior year, so I have a fair understanding of physics before going to college. But sadly AP...

I am a high school student and I want to get the most rigorous math education available in algebra and geometry. I was thinking the SMSG books from yale univ, but that may be outdated (they use stuff like "truth sets"). How about this plan:

During a physics competition, I came across this question.
My work was
\begin{align*}\Delta S &= \frac{Q}{T} \\ \Delta S &= \frac{1.25 \times 10^3 \, \mathrm{J}}{348 \, \mathrm{K}} \\ \Delta S &= 3.59 \,\,\mathrm{\left( J/K\right )} \end{align*}
but I was stuck in between two answer choices...
I'm a senior in high school and dislike the way physics is taught. I find the textbooks to be too watered down and lacking in mathematical rigor. My plan is to major in physics when I go to college, so I've decided to self study physics in my spare time. I've browsed around the forums here...
Hey, weird post but I am interested in science and building things and I wanted to ask any good ways to learn and have fun at home with science (preferably physics) and also some ideas of stuff I can use physics knowledge to build. THANKS!

So basically I am in high school and have done my major exam for the end of the year. It was a good test except for one question that i got totally stumped on. The question said that a planet was 6.7 light years away from earth. A spacecraft has a maximum speed of 0.9c, how long would a clock on...
Are there examples of modern, influential mathematicians who did not show unusual mathematical talent before college? Because today it seems like the field is pretty much closed off to college freshmen first encountering abstract mathematics, no matter how much fascination and interest they...

I'm still in high school and looking at majoring in physics in college. I have taken math up to single variable calculus, but I want to go back and relearn algebra and geometry to get a much better understanding of those subjects. I'm considering using the books Algebra by I.M Gelfand and...
Hello MHB,
I wanted to post the 2 methods I provided for solving the High School POTW, which I submitted for use that week. :D
The problem was to solve:
\left\lfloor x+\frac{7}{3} \right\rfloor^2+\left\lfloor x-\frac{9}{4} \right\rfloor=16

Hi.
I've got my last year high school physics exam tomorrow, and for the second part of the exam (last 3 hours) we're allowed to bring anything we want as long as we can't communicate. We're also allowed to bring computers, so I'd be curious to see if there actually exist any programs that can...
Hello all!
I'm a 3rd year grad student getting his PhD in Physics, primarily astro-particle theory. I have a huge passion for physics but as I ever so slowly tip toe my way to this degree my mind looks down different potential paths I could take after I get it.

If you were the mister of education or whatever, how would you structure high school physics?
Would you make it more math heavy, would you put an emphasis on critical thinking and understanding or would you increase rote-learning or decrease it?
Would you make it so that it prepares students...
Hello,
I graduated from University in 2009 with a business degree but have decided that wasnt for me. I want to be a teacher and secondary math seems like the best path to take [higher demand & tutoring opportunities]
