A case study involves an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a particular case or cases, within a real-world context. For example, case studies in medicine may focus on an individual patient or ailment; case studies in business might cover a particular firm's strategy or a broader market; similarly, case studies in politics can range from a narrow happening over time (e.g., a specific political campaign) to an enormous undertaking (e.g., a World War).
Generally, a case study can highlight nearly any individual, group, organization, event, belief system, or action. A case study does not necessarily have to be one observation (N=1), but may include many observations (one or multiple individuals and entities across multiple time periods, all within the same case study). Research projects involving numerous cases are frequently called cross-case research, whereas a study of a single case is called within-case research.Case study research has been extensively practiced in both the social and natural sciences.
Hi there!
A couple years ago, I failed my physics exam taken in upper secondary school (Norway), which has led me to having to retake the subject. I realize that I likely failed due to being lazy and tired of school.
But a lot has changed since then, and I really do wish to learn physics. In...
I'm not sure if this is the correct thread, so please accept my apologies if I've posted in the wrong section.
My question is for meteorologists and atmospheric scientists who did their undergraduate degree in different, but related fields, such as physics, chemistry, Earth science, etc. and...
The Clausius-Clapeyron formula is given by
\frac{d P}{d T} = \frac{L}{T \Delta V}
where P and T are the pressure and temperature at the boiling point, respectively, and L is the latent heat per mole at the boiling point, and \Delta V is the change in the volume per mole between the gas and...

When you're studying, do you set goals for yourself? If so, do you set time-based goals, such as studying for X number of hours, or do you set task-based goals, such as completing Y number of exercises, or going through a certain number of pages in notes or a book? If neither, what type of goals...
Hey,
I’m new here .Good to join you all .. I need your help as I don’t know how to study maths .
I am always distracted. I even sleep well. I don’t use my social media account or have phone with me still I can’t concentrate. When I start doing maths I feel like I have forgotten everything I...

First off, thank you for all of the help this semester. I'm sure you'll be seeing questions from me in the spring also. Here is how I'm thinking about this problem:
1. Using the...
I am a first-year graduate student in a physics Ph.D. program. I am hoping to find someone or a group I can study and solve problems with, online or in-person. I tend to procrastinate or get distracted on my own, so I was hoping to find a group to join or create. My fellow grad students seem way...
I'm not a plant expert, but I can tell monocots from dicots.
Apparently the monocot lineage was founded by aquatic plants (Science mag news story, original paper) and some obscure monocot leaf structure features can be explained by that aquatic origin.
I'm actually kind of surprised...
I have studied the operation of light Diodes in the basic electronics course in my graduation and I had a question!
Light Diodes (LEDs) are semiconductor materials with P-N junctions and that when energized emit visible light. I understand that the process of light emission when applying a...
Hello, I am a second year PhD student in mathematics currently studying logic. I have recently begun questioning staying in the field, and I really think I may want to work in Machine Learning, at the very least in the theory of it. I am willing to self study from machine learning books, but...
I had a test today on my linear algebra class, and it's safe to say that I didn't get more than a seventy percent on it. I got the first two problems of the test down, but the last problem asked me to prove something involving linearly independent sequences, how if a vector isn't in the span of...
Doing circuit analysis everything comes in rectangular loops and it just adds more rectangles. In my Circuit Analysis studies we don't even use the ground symbol. But my teacher referred to the ground symbol once as the reference node which we use in the Node Voltage Method.
In reality circuit...
Hi,
I'm starting my undergraduate physics degree this Monday and I'm trying to make up a good system of how I'm going to learn efficiently. This is what I came up with so far.
The courses at my uni don't always follow a textbook, just parts of some, so I'll ask the lecturers about these and...
Hi,
I've chosen to compare the results of three different machine-learning models (or well, one is the ground truth) outputting the mouth animation of a talking 3D model for my thesis using a user preference study.
Users will see two videos at a time, each from one of the models, and indicate...
I'm having trouble in studying. I am studying full time from Monday to Monday but I just cannot get focused all the time, I realized that more than half of the time I'm sleepy or struggling to maintain my focus. I'm doing my degree in physics and I feel like I need to study full time, but I just...
Hello PF,
This by no means the first time I inquire about the topic. I have read a lot on how to study from textbooks and I have practiced all methods and read extensively. Yet, I have never felt that I truly accomplished my purpose and mastered the given material.
The thing is that while...
To self study the theoretical part of general physics is as "easy" as going through a textbook, but how could a person self study the experimental part of general physics at home? Any ideas? (Should be easier than to self study chemistry lab hahaha)
I'm a 25 y.o. software engineer working in ML research. I've been fascinated with physics since at least high school. I did not have a good time in university, and I gave up on doing a physics degree and did computer science to finish sooner (I would have dual majored). I am trying to decide if...

Hello,
I've found some similar posts, but as the answers heavily depend on the individual, I decided to present my own case. I want to apply for the physics graduate programs of the big universitie MIT, Harvard, Standord and UC Berkley. For this I need to decide on a specific field of study for...
hello dear physicists
I will work in my thesis on 1D materials using DFT as a numerical method to find the properietes of these 1D materials
I would be very happy if someone can help me with references (books, links, articles, vedios ...) that could help me to advance in my work
Thank you
Hi all,
I am completely new to this forum. So allow me to introduce myself. I am currently paving my career as a mathematician, particularly in the field of probability theory and financial mathematics. I am currently pursuing a PhD in this subject and could not help but notice how closely...
Hi, I was wondering what stem field has the greatest likely hood to employ one as a professor at a university.
I am deciding between mathematics, physics and computer science. My father is a professor in computer science but I am not entirely sure which field I want to become a professor in(or...
I’m starting my undergraduate physics degree next semester but I really like to study different fields on my own without any external motivation or obligation related to school. As I want to be a theoretical physicist I think this is something that I really have to be good at, because I imagine...
Here is someone who advised me the best educational material for my MB6-894 exam, I need a progressive and suitable education material for my exam through which I can success my exam well.
1) Is it possible to create crystals at home beyond child crystal kits one can buy? I'm very serious
about putting work into studying and growing crystals. If so, what do I need?
2) Also how would it be possible to introduce vacancies in crystal growth ? I have heard of
things like ionic...
What is the best site to learn physics concepts with lots of examples? some site which doesn't show up on google.
Like i give example of cplusplus.com which has all topics of c++ programs.
Is there some physics site like that?
Like i am always confused with pulley, strings, tension problems.
I like to start a graduate program in scientific computing within the next 4-5 years, once my kids are a little older, my wife finishes her degree, and I have more money saved. In the meantime, I’m not going to waste time. Using the MIT challenge completed by Scott Young as inspiration, I’ve...
The main topic I'm struggling with is as follows:
Strain, stresses and constitutive law in a 1D,2D, and 3D linear elastic model
i. Kinematics:displacements and strains (something about stress, strain and displacements fields is also mentioned)
ii. Stresses and equilibrium
iii.Constitutive law...
Hello, I’m an undergraduate physics student. Recently, I recognize that I am interested in evolution and I want to study life’s origin. When I preferred physics, because I want to learn how nature works. Now, I am not only interested in how nature works, also I’m passionate for neuroscience and...
So in a couple of months from now I will start to intensively learn physics because I want to hopefully join larger competitions such as IPHO. I'm legitimately interested in physics and have won some competitions before but I'm just looking for some tips for studying physics. It would also be...

When analyzing hydrological and climatological timeseries/observations it is common practice to compare statistics made on normal periods. As WMO calls them "WMO Climatological Normals".
These periods consist normally of 30 years of data. If you want to compare two normal periods with each...
My dissertation was basically a literature review of sean caroll lecture notes on general relativity.
I got a first in this, and got offered phd interviews with the supervisors being aware of this so it must suffice? but I'm unsure how you explain the motives and conclusion of such a piece of...
