A case study involves an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a particular case or cases, within a real-world context. For example, case studies in medicine may focus on an individual patient or ailment; case studies in business might cover a particular firm's strategy or a broader market; similarly, case studies in politics can range from a narrow happening over time (e.g., a specific political campaign) to an enormous undertaking (e.g., a World War).
Generally, a case study can highlight nearly any individual, group, organization, event, belief system, or action. A case study does not necessarily have to be one observation (N=1), but may include many observations (one or multiple individuals and entities across multiple time periods, all within the same case study). Research projects involving numerous cases are frequently called cross-case research, whereas a study of a single case is called within-case research.Case study research has been extensively practiced in both the social and natural sciences.

Hello everyone,
I am from Spain and I am in the last year of my bachelor in Physics. I am actually very interested in moving in the US to get a masters degree, but I cannot afford to pay the tuition, and I was not able to find any full scholarship that I could apply for. Any advice that you...
Hi,
I study physics and I know what the concept self-inductance means, and in one of my study books, a figure like this was used to explain the self inductance in a coil As shown in the figure, two electromagnets are connected together and the current is passing through them and would produce a...

Hi,
I am a Physics graduate and I am VERY mathematically inclined. (This does NOT mean I know a lot of math. My curriculum focused on experimental physics - which left me with a very keen desire to study all the mathematics involved - so I do need to start from scratch.)
I would like to study...
I am planning to read and study a book in math. How do you guys take notes when reading Mathematics books? I don't go to class anymore. I plan to self-study it. Any tips would be helpful! Thanks.

Hello,
I am taking a class in RA, where we're using Bartle/Sherbert. Since I have studied few chapters from it in the summer before, I decided to take a look at a more rigorous book, like baby rudin, but since many have advised against that book, I turned to Pugh's real mathematical analysis...
We have various threads and posts on the topic of the Earth's magnetic field. Now, "a new mapping effort by the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows how the hazards of geomagnetic storms are not the same all over Earth — and they're especially worrisome in northern Minnesota," and particularly up...
Hi,
I'm still a student at school, and I'm currently doing the IB programme.
The IB programme is not very challenging...and I've gone out of my way to study the A-levels as well. For those familiar with the A-levels, I've completed the Maths and Further Maths Modules, up to FP3, M3, S2 and...
Hello, I'm a math and physics double major. I'm currently a freshman in college and I have various courses that are general requirement courses. Does anyone know when I'll be able to focus on math and physics only? Not specifically, but perhaps a certain year in college?
I naturally fell into a habit of studying until 12 at night and taking a 70-minute nap at around 4pm. This adds up to a bit over 8 hours of sleep.
This way I can refresh my brain in the afternoon and study with more brain power during the calm night!
I’m 35 and I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and has worked some ten years as an embedded software/firmware engineer. I’m already in a senior position in charge of the whole product for a small electronics manufacturer. Everything seems fine to me, and I’m happy with...
I'm a freshman at UT Arlington (Physics Major) and I'm wondering if I go abroad for a year or not. A guy told me that if I want to go my sophomore year, I should apply this year. However, the downside that I can possible think of is the connection that I'd make with the professors, here at UTA...
I'm an undergraduate (freshman) in physics and mathematics. I'm having a bit of trouble keeping track of all of my coursework. I have an account on Habitica and I have a schedule keeper than I carry with, but I seem to miss a few things here and there. What sorts of things do you guys use to...
I love physics and maths,I am17,from Malaysia...My questions:Should I have a high IQ to study physics in university? Is it useful in the future? Are there many girls like to study physics?Or I am a weirdo? Haha, just kidding.I need answers and thank you!I hope Albert Einstein always...
im a junior physics major, i transferred from a community college to a 4 year college, and i have been hit hard with the classes I am taking. I am taking diff. eq. intermediate mchanics, advanced calculus class (after calculus 3), and physics on thermodynamics and the special theory of...
I'm interested in learning Quantum Mechanics the way it was discovered, and that seems to be from blackbody radiation, which itself seems to be first quantified by Wien's Displacement Law.
So Wikipedia says Wien derived this law by "considering adiabatic expansion of a cavity containing waves...
I across a video about how to be good enough at anything within 20 hours.
It said that first to get rid of all barriers and the identify
The small skills which are used in the thing you're trying to "become good enough at ",in this case in solving trigonometry questions, and grind them...
Note: for easy reference, "serious" questions and such are italicized. I also should note that although the title says "science", I include many references to mathematics (I suppose one could argue that it is a science in some senses). Furthermore, in another thread that I've posted, some people...
I like science a lot. Research, discovering new things, math, and anything to do with space is exciting to me. I also like the application of physics, like engineering. I was thinking about majoring in space physics, astronomy, experimental, applied, or engineering physics. Maybe a minor...
Dear Physics Forum personnel,
I will be taking my first graduate course (as an undergraduate) in mathematics starting on this Fall Semester. The course is about the algebraic topology (Hatcher, Spanier, Massey, etc.), which I am very excited to take as I love the topology. I am curious about...
Dear all,
I have been searching for quite a while in regards to this topic but cannot find an answer that suits my question, which is: How would someone go about creating a tender bid for a feasibility study?
How can you determine the cost of a feasibility study without actually doing the...
Hello, I just completed a first course in linear algebra and really enjoyed my studies. So much so that I want to pursue it more in the fall as an independent study, i am a EE major in college and was curious what directions might be useful for applications in that field.
Hi.
After studied General physics, I want to read some book about Theorical Physics. But Mathematics is very difficult. So can you show me the best way to math needed to study physics? From easy to difficult.
Thanks for helping

I have difficulty completing books that I start because I lose interest or motivation. So, I was thinking that it would be different if I had someone to maybe report my progress to.
Here is what I propose. I will choose a book. For example, Gems on Geometry by John Barnes. I will set a target...
I am going to be applying to graduate programs for theory in the fall, and after discussing research with a few of my professors, my top research topic choice is Conformal Field Theories. Are CFT's a large enough area of study to be the focus of research for a graduate student? Also, will saying...

I have an opportunity to continue my studies. I have 3 semesters left to finish. But I don't know if I should right now. I have a job that takes 8 hours (naturally) and I don't know if I would have time to study. I am quite busy with my life now and I would have maybe 3-4 hours a day to study. I...
Kind of a dumb question, but sometimes reading math books (most recently, a book on elementary probability) in addition to the coursework I already have for my summer session gets to be a bit too stressing. I feel like I should have math as a hobby as someone who is majoring in it. I mean, I...
I have my 2nd last exams in about 4 weeks and all I can be bothered to study right now is physics and maths. When I sit to study anything else, especially biology or English, I can't focus and learn anything. Even after I manage to force myself, I feel even less motivated to study again after...

Hi, my question is if there exists a study systematically comparing different cosmological models in how well they fit the same standard cosmological data sets (CMB, luminosity, BOA, SNe, lensing,...). I can find very little besides LCDM.
In the rare case of a comparison, it leads to...
I want to have a deep understanding of probability.
I've tried William Feller's first book on Probability, and E.T Jaynes' Probability theory - the logic of science (which is very different from most probability books.)
But, neither books could hold my interest for long. The first was too...
