A case study involves an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a particular case or cases, within a real-world context. For example, case studies in medicine may focus on an individual patient or ailment; case studies in business might cover a particular firm's strategy or a broader market; similarly, case studies in politics can range from a narrow happening over time (e.g., a specific political campaign) to an enormous undertaking (e.g., a World War).
Generally, a case study can highlight nearly any individual, group, organization, event, belief system, or action. A case study does not necessarily have to be one observation (N=1), but may include many observations (one or multiple individuals and entities across multiple time periods, all within the same case study). Research projects involving numerous cases are frequently called cross-case research, whereas a study of a single case is called within-case research.Case study research has been extensively practiced in both the social and natural sciences.
Hello y'all. My biology term final exam is this Friday. It's not mandatory for me because I have a good grade. But I'm going to take it anyway.
For some reason, my teacher Mr. Mannara did not prepare a study guide. He said so himself. For every test I've taken in his class that was...
I am looking for an easy to read book on immunology that focuses on how diseases occur, progress, and cause changes at the cellular level in human body. The book will be ideal if it has a lot of pictures of affected human organs, graphs (or some representation of data in clinic), identification...
I'm taking my first upper tier physics class in fall 2012 Analytical Mechanics. I know that the calculus of variation is fundamental to understanding the Lagrangian and because this will be the only classical mechanics class I will take in my undergrad I want to understand it well. Do you think...
I'm going to be an undergraduate at UVA Engineering starting next year.
Right now, I don't think I'll want to end up living as an engineer. I think I want to go into law, business, finance, or something in one of those general areas.
I'm fairly set on doing a double major in Physics (<3...
Hi, I'm new to the forums.
I hear this is a helpful site with knowledgeable people who know what they're talking about.
I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions for me.
I am in high-school and soon attending college in a year, I plan on going into Medicine but I want to be...
Hey everybody!
I will be attending Notre Dame this following fall, and I am hoping to major in physics, as well as research (I haven't really decided what I will to focus on, esp. at the graduate level, but I hope I can figure that out later on down the road).
Over the summer, I want to...
Hi, I am from Spain. I have dropped out from a university (2 years of medicine in Spain without any degree) and now after 4 years I would like to study a completely different subject and that's physics (or theoretical physics if possible) in the United States.
Is this possible or I have no...
I am a non-traditional student (36 w/ a business degree after leaving a CHemE program when in school the first time). The last 12 years of my life, I have worked in the application of industrial coatings' to steel . I still work in the field, and will continue to. Now, I work in outside sales...
We're having a case study project in our intro physics class. We can choose from the ff. topics: kinematics, Newton's laws, momentum, energy, gravitation, SHO, waves, and fluid mech.
We are to investigate a case of physical phenomena which exhibits the theories we have studied in class. This...
Hi all,
Is differential equation a prerequisite to study real analysis (in context of baby Rudin)? And does it have any use in measure theory or Stochastic Calculus?
Thanks in advance.

I'm a chemistry major with an emphasis on the biochem side of things. I'm currently finishing up Calc 3 and the basic electricity and magnetism portion of my physics curriculum, and quite frankly, physics is just about the coolest thing ever.
I still love chemistry. But physics delves into...
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on a topic or course that I could take next Fall as an independent study? I will be taking Number Theory this summer and Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra and either Numerical Analysis or Complex Analysis next Fall.I spoke to one of my...
Has anyone heard of an independent study for freshman/sophomore students for physics/engineering majors?
What are your perspectives on it? Is it too early? Or is it a good to have?
I ask because I spoke to one of the faculty members about it-- and he replied that it is too early. He wasn't...
I'm a High School student in NZ, and I am going to the local university next year. However I don't know what subject should I choose, I perfer pure mathematics, although engineering or computer programming may have much higher incomes so I am considering them. I am very good at mathematics (I...
Hi everyone, would appreciate a bit of advice here.
I did Finance in college, however I feel that the classes weren't quantitative enough, only having Business calculus and very basic statistics. So now I am self studying maths again. What I did was take an online course in calculus which...
Hello, I am interested in finding out what are the primary fields of study for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I also want to know how these fields of study fit together. If anyone can help, please contact me. Thank you.
Hello mates,
anyone here ever studied or used the method of rapid cooling called "Splat Cooling" ?
I will use this method for the processing of two types of alloys. Ti-Fe and Ti-Fe-Sn. Then I will compare its phases, microstructure, etc and properties like nanohardness.
I would really...
I was just curious if anyone had any information on how 'the greats' went about studying. People such as Feynman, Einstein, etc. studied.
Of course omit the scientists who mastered analysis by the age of 5 like Neumann and Landau.
I was experimenting with some physics and the mathematics started to get a bit tougher than what I'm used to. I had a professor who looked at what I'm doing, offered to guide me, and told me to do some research on the variational principle.
At the moment, I am in Calculus II. I did a couple...
I graduated with a BA in Classicals and didn't take any math in college. Now that I've been out for a few years I find that I have an overwhelming desire to learn how things work in a way I can describe mathematically (it's hard to explain, hopefully you understand) and am starting some self...
I am in my second semester of calculus based physics ( electromagnetism ) and like last semester this is my hardest class, and the one that I am struggling with. I spent so much time reading, looking into websites trying to understand the concepts, but when it comes to the test seems like i...
Hello,
I graduated in spring 2010, and I am beginning study for the Oct 2012 FE / EIT exam (long wait, I know ...) .
I was wondering if anyone else has taken it after being out of school about two years, and what you did to efficiently structure / make use of your time for studying for...
I've been a bad student my entire life, and I'm 22 now. My goal right now is to become an electrical engineer. Problem is that I do just enough to pass. My GPA is at about a 3.0 and classes are getting harder. I'm almost done with my lower division and I know my GPA is going to drop more...
Hey guys,
I'm in my university's analysis course right now and it is the final course I need before graduation. The problem is I don't have a ton of experience with writing proofs. I'm surviving so far but am relying too heavily on online workthroughs to the problems. We're using Analysis...
Hello everyone. I want to study topology ahead of time (it begins next semester only) and I have two options: I could go straight for general topology (among the books I searched I found Munkres to be the one I felt most comfortable with) or go for a thorough study of metric spaces (in which...
So I have a question for you guys - what do you do if your test grades don't seem to be affected by how much you've studied?
Here's the short version of my problem:
Study a bit = ~85 and 2 out of 3 times so far, the highest grade.
Don't study at all and get one hour of sleep = 80 (the...
Since there no teacher doing geometry or topology in our school,I have to learn some course all by myself. But I often come upon problems when I'm reading the book or doing the exercises. In some exercises,I even don't know which part of book can be used to solve it.
So I want to ask here hope...
Alright so far I took calc1-3 which included vector calc and I'm currently taking LA. The LA class is only a quarter long and afterward I'm taking DE and Complex variables. I'm wondering what math should I take next year. I'm thinking either taking Analysis or Abstract Algebra. What do you think...
I graduated about 5 years ago from a top 10 college in physics. My grades were alright but because of a variety of factors, I decided not to go into a related job. But recently I feel like I've reached a crossroads in my life and I want to challenge myself and give myself an fulfilling (and...
I'm a freshman in college and thinking of majoring in Math and maybe Chemistry (Don't really know yet, as I've never taken high school Chem). I took Calculus 1 (Differentiation) last quarter and managed to get an A+ (94.79%) for the overall course despite not doing so well on the first midterm...
First, let me apologize for my bad English, it's not my native language.
Most areas of math for me aren't really an issue. I'm actually quite good at it. But there's one thing I absolutely despise and also something I'm very bad at: geometry. I was planning on studying theoretical physics...
I apologize for the rather vague title. It's space-limited and I'm not sure how to concisely state what I want to know.
Basically, I understand that the solutions to quadratic equations (and if I remember correctly cubic equations) often had surveying problems land surveying. However, quartic...
hello guys,
currently i am a pediatrician, i am still 27y old, it has always been my dream to study quantum physics, this branch is not available in egypt
can anybody give me any tips on where i can study quantum physics ?
Hi!
I'm wondering how do we study mathematics. If the book has exercises, after reading (maybe several times) the theory, you can go and do the exercises. If the book is only theory and no exercises, how do you check your understanding on the subject?
A professor at my university is currently working on using "complex network theory to study the coherence of flows in ocean circulation". If I'm interested, I could possibly do my bachelor thesis on this subject. Before I go talk to him, I'd like to at least have some idea of what this is...
i am studying electrical engineering and doing my undergraduate thesis on solar cell device physics...and looking forward to research on organic solar cell. For my graduate study, i am planning to study in the physics department of cambridge university (in cavendish laboratory) if i get the...
Hi all, this thread is mainly aimed at postgrads. I'm doing my undergrad degree in theoretical physics, my question is this; how many hours of independent study did you do while an undergrad? I've been getting good scores so far, but have only been averaging about an hour a day outside contact...
Hello.
I am a Brazilian Mechanical Engineering student and my country is currently sending quite a lot of students to USA Universities through a government program. One of the requirements is to do the TOEFL iBT and to have at least 79 points out of 120, so I would like to start studying ASAP...
Hot and fresh off the press! It claims 1-2 joints a week does not harm the lungs long term. If anything, I think this reaffirms the call for balance in life. A drink or smoke a week won't kill you, but don't binge with either. What are your thoughts on the studies results?
Association...
I am just curious how people study completely new subject. For instance I want to self study "error control coding" and I pick up book "Error control coding fundamentals & application" by costello & Lin which is considered a fundamental book like griffiths book for physics. Is it people study...
I don't know why, but I just can't get into E&M. I didn't find it interesting as an undergrad, and it's not interesting to me now as a grad student. However, I need to know the material--gotta pass the quals!--and I even want to know the material ('cause it's an important part of physics and I...
Homework Statement
I have these questions from a study guide in physics. I don't understand how to answer any of these and am completely lost in physics. I'm looking for any help I could get in explaining how to do these problems. I'm new to this site and not sure if this is posted right or...
I have one more semester left in my bachelors degree in International Relations. I would like to do a 180 and continue my education in Physics after I graduate.
A bit of background: I have always been interested in astrophysics and have studied it independently for years. Even though it was...
The kinds of devices I would like to be able to design are magnetrons, klystrons, gyrotrons, and maybe free electron lasers/masers. My goal is not to get a job in the field, but to just have enough knowledge to build some of these things myself. My first thought is plasma physics and EE, but I...
I love to play lego and make gundam robot when i was young.now i still love to built sth.Is that means i love engineering?these hobby related to mechanical or civil?want to apply uni already. but still can't decide.T.T.
thanks for helping.
