A case study involves an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a particular case or cases, within a real-world context. For example, case studies in medicine may focus on an individual patient or ailment; case studies in business might cover a particular firm's strategy or a broader market; similarly, case studies in politics can range from a narrow happening over time (e.g., a specific political campaign) to an enormous undertaking (e.g., a World War).
Generally, a case study can highlight nearly any individual, group, organization, event, belief system, or action. A case study does not necessarily have to be one observation (N=1), but may include many observations (one or multiple individuals and entities across multiple time periods, all within the same case study). Research projects involving numerous cases are frequently called cross-case research, whereas a study of a single case is called within-case research.Case study research has been extensively practiced in both the social and natural sciences.
Is there a one-stop textbook for physics major students, a single book that teaches you the required math for a particular physics subtopic before teaching you the physics (or teaches you both the math and physics together)? I find standard undergraduate textbooks, such as Classical Mechanics by...

I'm interested in expanding my computer knowledge. Specifically, computer science knowledge.
I've taken a few numerical methods courses, but they were all in MATLAB.
My strategy this summer was to study physics problems like PDEs and solve them in some language I don't know like C++. Also, I...
I have made a similar post to this in the past, but it was a very long time ago, and my perspective on the issue has changed since then, so I felt this post could be helpful. I have just finished my second year of college; during those two years I've nearly completed my Associate's degree in...
Hello. I am a sophomore and I attend an Early College High school. I am currently in Geometry this year and I will be taking Algebra II during the first half of summer. To account for the second half-credit of Algebra II, I will be taking College Algebra in the second half of summer. Throughout...
I've noticed that my routine for studying mathematics, physics, chemistry etc. isn't doing me any good. It seems that no matter how much effort i put into studying the material, I am always one step behind and my test scores come back horrible. My current routine will be to read through the...
I am a high school student (still in grade 11) I want to study theoretical physics in USA or Switzerland but I am from the middle east (Lebanon) and I want to know what I need to be accept in theoretical physics what subjects I need and please tell me the grade for each subject I need example ...
Hi people!
I am a high school rising senior who is looking to self study electricity and magnetism over the summer. Particularly, my aim is to take the ap physics c electricity and magnetism exam as a result of this self study but also to realize if I want to work with hardware/electrical...
I'm pretty rusty at calculus. I did well in them, but my memory is terrible and I have forgotten a lot.
I'm going to take ordinary differential equations (it looks and sounds like an intro DE class with some linear algebra too) next spring. What should I study and what not to prepare for this...
I am a 19 year-old freshman from Egypt. There are no double majors here, attending university is free but I live my parents and second jobs don't pay enough for me to live on my own.
I love Maths much more than Engineering and I don't like the very applied way they teach Maths in the Engineering...
I'm going to reinforce my physics knowledge via self study in my spare time, the amount of time available is varying since I'm a parent and have a full-time work...

Hi there,
My question is regarded to PP spectroscopy, I studied this method, expertimental set-up, transient absorption, and it is quite familiar to me. But nowhere I can't find any material that shows how this method can be used to study Nanocrystals, and that is what I am seeking for now...
My daughter is a Sophmore in high school and is taking Calculus with a current focus on Trig. I am trying to help her study but this stuff is way over my head...but I am trying! Can anyone help me with this? Here are a few of her study problems that we cannot figure out. Can you help me to...
So I am in the area in between years 10-11. I am currently on exchange and I have a lot of time so I thought I would study for year 11's topics so that the next few years would be easier. The main subjects I wan't to focus on are Biology and Chemistry. I had bought a book without doing any real...
Hi all,
I consider myself a physics self-studier (although I've taken the introductory physics series and more in college), and I'm looking for an introduction to statistical mechanics. My thermal physics class used Schroeder's "Thermal Physics" text, which touches slightly on stat-mech at the...
I am an incoming 4th year Electronics Engineering student. I sort of want to address my problem over the summer, the problem being that I have a weak foundation in maths. I do get above average scores in class despite this problem but I feel like it is holding me back. Also, I want to study my...
First time poster, I thought I'd pose this question since I am entering the engineering field next year (plans to branch off into EE). I am going into this next year totally blind, like many have I imagine.
If you were to go back to your younger self a) what would you have done to prepare...
THIS WAS MOVED FROM ANOTHER FORUM, SO THERE IS NO TEMPLATE. HOWEVER, THE OP DID SHOW SOME EFFORT
Hello, I have been having troubles beginning these two problems given for exam prep. Was wondering if anyone could give guidance on where to begin.

Hi, I am looking for a way to self study calculus. I am an eighth grader doing more than grade level stuff, so I am a COMPLETE beginner and need a book which starts with like the 'abc's' of calculus. I know geometry, Algebra 1 & 2 really well, but am not the best at Trig or Precalc, so if there...

I've recently failed my first physics exam at a German university and would like to ask for some advice here.
I understood 90% of the course content and was able to solve most of the problems, but in the exam, I was often confused and obviously too slow. I ran out of time just as I started doing...
Hi everybody,
I'm a second semester physics major who was fortunate enough to get a position in a research group at my school. What I want to do is get a head start on learning the physics that this lab studies. Currently, I'm in the honors section of basic E & M and I do well in class, not...
Hello everyone!
I discovered the community yesterday by luck (in Spanish we have a word for this: serendipia), I read a couple of threads and decided to join.
That's not the point since it's not an introduction thread.
I would like you guys to suggest me books about algebra, geometry...
Hello to everyone out there!
Let me explain my situation. I am currently studying in India, with my Final year of high-school left to complete. I have been interested in Physics since Glade 7, fascinated with phenomenons like Quantum tunneling and Entanglemnet(thanks to Science Fiction for that...

Hi, I'm really only in the forum to help my wife (as my questions will show). for 5 years after graduating from an ivy league as an electric engineer she took care of our kids instead of working, and is now going to do a masters in EE to "get back in the game". she's doing some prep work (5...
I mean there's one way to read a book where the author becomes all important to the narrative, (like his/her life, why it was written, the era it comes from, etc) ) and then the other way is where what the author writes has a life of its own, and takes on meanings that the author might not even...
I am an Engineering student but it has always been my dream to become a Physicist. So, I decided to continue on with my degree and extend my studies to Physics (I still have two years left in Engineering). However, in class, I wouldn't be whom you would be calling as "smart". My whole life, I...
Hello,
I am an undergraduate at UNLV. Before, I was at a community college for a few years before I went to UNLV. I used to be art major for a few semester but I didn't like it very much so I changed it to general education as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Last year, I thought of becoming...

Hi all,
I'm a freshman that's about to begin my second semester taking 3 technical courses and 1 gen-ed course. I've gotten accustomed to studying for math and science classes in university, but I have to take this non-western gen-ed (and due to scheduling conflicts with my main 3 classes, I'm...
